UWA Social Sports competitions are the perfect way to have fun and get fit while hanging out with your friends, classmates and workmates. The competitions are open to everyone – you don't have to be a UWA Student to get involved!  Check out all the action from our Social Sports competition here.

How to get involved

Competitions on Offer

There are four UWA Social Sport competitions throughout the year to get involved in:

  • Semester 1 (4 March – 31 May) *12 weeks. Registrations open 28 January 2019.

  • Winter Break (17 June – 26 July) *6 weeks. Registrations open 13 May 2019.

  • Semester 2 (5 August – 1 November) *12 weeks. Registrations open 1 July 2019.

  • Summer Break (18 November – 20 February) *10 weeks. Registrations open 14 October 2019.

It's easy to get involved in social sports at UWA. There are two options:

Team registrations: Register online via the link below once registrations open
Individual registrations: Can’t find a team? No worries. Please contact us at programs@sport.uwa.edu.au and we will help you in finding a team.

2019 Semester 1 Competitions

Registrations for our Semester 1 Competitions are open Monday 28 January–Wednesday 27 February. The Competitions run between Monday 4 March and Friday 31 May.

 * Registrations may close early if competitions reach capacity.

Duration: 12 week competition

Netball

Mixed Competitions: Monday or Tuesday 6:00pm-9.45pm from 4 and 5 March

Women's Competition: Tuesday 6:00pm-9:45pm from 5 March

Location: UWA Netball Courts

Duration: 12 week competition

Team Size: 7 or more people 

Cost Per Week: $60

Cost Per Season: $720 (per team)

Ultimate Frisbee

Mixed Competition: Monday 6:00pm-10.30pm from 4 March

Location: James Oval and Riley Oval

Duration: 12 week competition

Team Size: 7 or more people

Basketball

Mixed Competition: Monday 6:00pm-10.30pm from 4 March

Volleyball

Touch Rugby

Mixed Competition: Wednesday 6:00pm-10.30pm from 6 March

Location: James Oval

Duration: 12 week competition

Team Size: 6 or more people

Australian Rules Football

Mixed Competition: Thursday 6:00pm-10.30pm from 7 March

Location: UWA Sports Park

Duration: 7 week competition (7 March-18 April)

Team Size: 9 or more people

Water Polo

Mixed Competition: Tuesday 6:00pm-9:00pm from 30 April

Location: UWA Aquatic Centre

Duration: 5 week competition (30 April-28 May)

Team Size: 7 or more people

Cost Per Season: $360 (per team)

Cricket *New partnership with WACA

Mixed Competition: Monday 5:00pm-5:45pm from 4 March

Location: James Oval

Duration: 7 week competition (4 March-15 April)

Team Size: Max 8 people

Cost Per Week: $60

Cost Per Season: $504 (per team)

Fees

Team game fees can be paid upfront or weekly.

  • Weekly fee payments will incur an additional 20% administration fee
  • Standard competition fees are outlined above for each sport

All social sport teams are required to pay a team registration fee upon sign up. The fee rates are:

  • $60 Early Bird – available until Sunday 10 February for the 2019 Semester 1 competition
  • $75 Standard – available until Wednesday 27 February for the 2019 Semester 1 competition

A late registration fee applies for teams who register later than the above dates.

Rules

All social sport competitions are governed by UWA Sport Terms and Conditions. In addition, each sport has a set of rules that support the running of the competition. Please follow the link below for all the rules relating to our social sport competitions.

Rules

Forfeits

Team forfeits must be communicated with UWA Sport Management on 6488 2286, or at programs@sport.uwa.edu.au, prior to 4pm on the day of the competition.

  • All teams who forfeit a game will be required to pay a forfeit fee equivalent to your weekly game fee.
  • Teams who do not inform UWA Sport of their forfeit prior to 4pm, do not show up for a game, or are more than 10 minutes late to a game, will incur a penalty fee equivalent of two (2) weekly game fees.
  • All forfeit and penalty fees must be paid at the UWA Fitness and Recreation Centre reception prior to your next game.
  • For those teams who are forfeited against, UWA Sport will provide you with a refund for the forfeited game (equivalent to the team weekly game fee). The refund will be processed at the end of the competition.

Withdrawals

Teams who wish to withdraw from a social sports competition must inform UWA Sport Management on 6488 2286, or at programs@sport.uwa.edu.au, within the first two week of the competition (before the third weeks of games commence).

Game cancellations

All games will go ahead in rain and/or windy conditions. Games will only be cancelled by UWA Sport Management when unsafe or extreme weather conditions occur. This includes severe weather warnings, lightning/thunder or extreme heat. UWA Sport Management will inform team captains from 4pm on game day. In addition, UWA Sport Coordinators have the right to cancel games if conditions become unsafe after games have commenced.

Fixtures

  • Fixtures for the start of the season will be released the Friday before the start of the competition. Once released, fixtures will be communicated to all participants via email and will be accessible on the UWA Sport website.
  • UWA Sport does not accept game timeslot requests.
  • UWA Sport reserves the right to add and change any game times where necessary. Team participants will be emailed new fixtures if a change is made more than 48 hours prior to the scheduled game. Inside 48 hours, team captains will be contacted via phone.
  • Game fees still apply across all competition weeks, including grading weeks and team bye weeks.
