UWA Recreate Short Courses

Recreate is the perfect way to relax, re-energise, get fit or simply have a great time. We offer a wide range of sport and recreation courses, personal development workshops and tours for students, staff and the general public to come and enjoy throughout the whole year.

  • As a UWA student, you receive a 25-50 per cent discount off the community price on all courses.

  • Anyone can participate in Recreate courses, from UWA staff and alumni, to members of the general public.

Program Overview

There are 6 Recreate Programs throughout the year, with more than 50 different courses on offer for you to try:

  • Semester 1 Summer Program (March – April)
  • Semester 1 Autumn Program (April – June)
  • Winter Break Program (June – July)
  • Semester 2 Winter Program (August – September)
  • Semester 2 Spring Program (September – November)
  • Summer Break (November – December 2019)

Current Program

Our Christmas Break program runs from Monday 18 November– Sunday 22 December

  • Enrolments for the Christmas Break Program open Monday 21 October
  • Online Enrolments Close Sunday 17 November

How to Enrol

To enrol in one of our courses, you will need to complete one of two options:

  • Check out the courses below and click 'book now' to register on our MyUWASport Portal; or
  • Complete the Recreate enrolment form and pay in person at the UWA Recreation and Fitness Centre reception, UWA Perth Campus.

Please note: Your enrolment will not be finalised until payment is received. We strongly recommend booking and paying for your course via our MyUWASport Portal to ensure your spot is secured immediately.

Late enrolments can be accepted up until 72 hours before the second class of your course. To enquire about late enrolment for a course please contact programs@sport.uwa.edu.au or visit us at the front desk of the Fitness and Recreation Centre. Late enrolments must still pay full course price even if they have missed the first class.

Boxing for Fitness

This boxing-inspired workout will get your heart rate up and make your muscles burn. It is a social class which includes pad work, resistance and cardio exercises.

Muay Thai

This popular martial art originates from Thailand and has spread worldwide, including elements of stand up striking and various clinching techniques. This course is perfect for anybody wanting to get started with Muay Thai, or even just learn some self-defence.

Pilates

This extended 1.5 hour Pilates class caters to participants from all different levels. Learn basics of Pilates with simple stretches, mobility exercises and bodyweight conditioning or push yourself with some more challenging muscular control exercises. The perfect way to keep your body healthy and strong over Winter.

Yoga

Basic Hatha yoga poses are taught by our excellent instructors while each class builds on the previous week’s lesson to develop your flexibility, strength and balance. An extended 1.5 hour class, this course will see you develop stamina and strength to hold your poses for longer durations.

Kayaking

Get out on the water and have a paddle in this easy-going course that will teach you the basics of kayaking while taking in the sites along the Swan River. Suitable even for those who have never been in a kayak before, but are able to swim at least 50m.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

There's no better way to end your day than on a stand up paddle board on the Swan River surrounded by dolphins. Learn all the necessary skills to master Stand Up Paddle Boarding, but more importantly relax and take in the view! Participants should be able to swim at least 50m.

Paddling - Gold

A friendly get-together for paddling fans 50+ years of age. Participants will take part in sessions on healthy ageing run by our qualified physiotherapist, followed by a paddle out on the lovely Swan River. Participants must be able to swim at least 50m.

Water Confidence

This course is suitable for UWA students who would like to learn the basics in the water. It suits those who have never learnt to swim before or who do not feel comfortable in the water.

Kitesurfing

Learn to Kitesurf in the safety of the Swan River with our qualified instructors, for a fraction of the price you would pay at regular schools. All equipment, wetsuits and safety gear included as well as your KA qualification to allow you to kitesurf and rent equipment anywhere in the world.
