UWA Sport runs a wide range of sport, recreation and fitness activities. Our offerings are perfect for first-timers, as well as more experienced individuals and groups looking to have a good time and to connect.

Overview

Our services are delivered by qualified and experienced instructors, and can be tailored to meet the needs of any group, including corporate groups, school groups and sport teams.

Whether you’re after a one-off sailing experience or a week long camp, we will be able to assist in organising the perfect experience for your group at UWA.

  • As a UWA affiliate group (corporate, student or alumni), you receive a 30% discount off the community price on all our services
  • Anyone can participate in services, as they can be organised for all skill levels.

Water Sports

Kayaking
Learn the basics required to safely manoeuvre a single-person kayak down the beautiful Swan River. For beginners, the session can be as simple as learning a few strokes and enjoying the scenery, but for more of a challenge we can incorporate a range of different games or races to heighten your experience.
Recommended Group Size: 10-20

Stand Up Paddling
Where better to experience the phenomenon that has taken the world by storm, than Matilda Bay? Suitable even if you’ve never stood on a board before, our stand-up paddle sessions take in all the sights of the area, while teaching you the basics skills of the sport.

Duration: 1 – 3 hours

Sailing
We offer a variety of sailing activities, including one-off twilight experiences, team building sessions or a series of skill development classes, straight from the Royal Perth Yacht Club on the Swan River. They are a chance to let your hair done and try something new as a team.

Canoeing
Canoeing is a perfect way to work on team cohesion. In our two-person canoes, communication between partners is essential if you want to go anywhere other than in circles! Of course, if you’re simply looking to unwind and spend a morning on the water, our instructors will be able to teach you all the necessary skills and lead you on a relaxing adventure.

Swimming
With three 25m pools, UWA Sport is the perfect place to learn how to swim or participate in water fitness sessions. We are able to organise water confidence or learn-to-swim courses for those who have never swan before. We can also arrange fitness-focused sessions for swimmers that are more confident. Alternatively, if you’re on campus on a warm day and feel like a swim in the river or in our pools, we can organise qualified supervision for you.

Fitness and Wellbeing

Boxing
Get your heart rate up and make your muscles burn! Our circuit-style boxing workout is a great way to socialise and learn a useful new skill. Our specialised instructor can adjust the class to put emphasis on areas such as martial-arts techniques and self-defence, plus varying fitness levels.

Fitness Sessions
Your group can access our fitness centre for personal use or training requirements. This includes our cardio rooms, weight stations and/or our three heated pools. We can offer specialised support in these facilities to help your group reach peak performance or we can organise fitness sessions for your visit.

Pilates
Pilates focuses on improving mobility and building strength in the entire body. Now used by a wide demographic of people, it is even used for post-injury recovery. Having access to one of our specialised instructors, your group will learn a new fitness technique, being able to use many exercises and methods at home or work afterwards.

Duration: 60-90 minutes

Yoga
Yoga is a discipline that enhances physical and mental health through posture work, breathing exercises and meditation. Our specialised instructor can adjust the class to be as relaxing or intensive as you would like. We can also organise exclusive sessions on Matilda Bay or across our various sport and fitness facilities.

Bootcamp
Using circuits, light weights, running and stretches, this action-packed class is the ideal way to work on general fitness and get your body moving. Bootcamp classes are the perfect introduction to fitness for groups who may not have much experience. Our specialised instructor can adjust the class to be as intensive as you would like.

Duration: 60 minutes

RPM (cycling)
Perhaps the most intense fitness session, this indoor cycling class will provide the ultimate calorie-burning experience. Our specialised instructor will create a workout set to music, giving instructions to the rhythm that will ensure you work up a sweat.

Land-Based Recreation

Sports (various)
UWA Sport has experience in managing, umpiring and coaching a wide range of sports including, but not limited to, soccer, netball, volleyball, AFL, tennis, badminton, basketball, plus more! Whether you’re planning a one-off sports session, multiple training sessions or a competition, UWA Sport can assist.

Team building
Our instructors will take a group of almost any size through different games and problem-solving activities designed to help build relationships and foster team cohesion. If you’re planning on spending a day at UWA, we are able to create a range of different activities/sessions for you.

Mountain biking
Learn how to use gears, brakes and proper riding techniques, before heading out on a scenic ride along the Swan River or in Kings Park led by our experienced instructors. All equipment is provided.

Amazing Race
Ever wanted to be on The Amazing Race? Here’s your chance! Here at UWA we can run an amazing race for any sized group on and around the UWA campus. It includes different games and problem-solving challenges designed to build relationships and develop teamwork skills.
Recommended Group Size:15+
Duration: 1-3 hours
Price: starting from $15 per person
Orienteering
A great way to discover the historic grounds of UWA; small groups will be taught how to read a map and then will head out in teams on an adventure around campus and nearby areas in search of various markers.

Sport and Recreation Packages

Can’t choose what activity you want to do? Not to worry, as we can tailor packages to include a variety of activities that you can try for the first time. For large groups rotating through the activities it can work out much cheaper than coming in for individual sessions.

2 session package: Include up to two different activities within the one session. An option is to combine kayaking and stand up paddle boarding on Matilda Bay for a morning out on the water.
Price: starting from $15 per person

3 session package: Include up to three different activities within the one session. Run a yoga session, followed up an amazing race and finish up on the water having a paddle.
Price: starting from $15 per person

4 sessions or more: Do a whole day of sport and recreation with us and experience the full range of activities we have on offer.
Price: starting from $15 per person

Tours

UWA Sport delivers exclusive tour packages for groups to locations in Perth and across Western Australia (WA). Each package is tailored to the group’s needs, with destinations including:

  • The Pinnacles Desert
  • Wave Rock
  • Swan Valley Winery Region
  • Lesmurdie Falls
  • Penguin Island
  • Margaret River Region
  • Yanchep National Park

We can plan a tour to anywhere you like in WA – just tell us the location and we can get back to you on the activities available and costs.

Price: starting from $70 per person (half day tour) and $130 per person (full day tour)

Camps

UWA Sport organises all-inclusive camps at UWA for groups of all sizes. We can create a program that allows your group to have access to a range of services and facilities, including:

  • Modern accommodation at our UWA colleges
  • Meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus any special catering requirements
  • Training facilities - fitness centre, playing fields, pools and sport science labs
  • Function rooms – for meetings, workshops or special events
  • Recreation activities – sport, leadership and team-building activities
