
Gym Challenge
Challenge yourself to this month's member challenge
Starting Monday 1 March, UWA Sport will host a series of challenges for UWA Sport gym members.
Plus, residents of UWA's residential colleges can sweat it out and compete for the College Fitness Cup. With each new month will come a new challenge, and residents will have the chance to score points for their college as well as win some great prizes for themselves.
A valid UWA Sport gym membership is required in order to participate in the challenge.
So how do you win?
Throughout the month, the current leaderboard of the top 5 male and top 5 female participants in the challenge will be displayed on the whiteboard in the gym, with the students on the whiteboard at the end of the month scoring points for their college.
- 1st Place: 500 points
- 2nd Place: 400 points
- 3rd Place: 300 points
- 4th Place: 200 points
- 5th Place: 100 points

Sprint 8 Sweat Score Challenge:
Males and females: Get the highest Sweat Score on our new cardio equipment!
Rules
- Record the highest SWEAT SCORE in Sprint 8 on a treadmill, bike or elliptical
- Present a photo of your score to our team, or show us in person
- April
Bench Press Bonanza:
Males: How many reps can you bench press of 75% of your body weight?
Females: How many reps can you bench press of 50% of your body weight?
Rules
- To enter the competition, approach a UWA Sport staff member and ask them to assist you with the challenge.
- Your bench press should involve bringing the bar all the way down to slightly touch the chest, before pushing back up to full extension
- Once you have finished the challenge, get the staff member to record how many reps you competed

Assault Bike:
Males and females: Most calories achieved in 60 seconds
Rules
- To enter the challenge, approach a UWA Sport staff member and ask them to assist you with the challenge.
- The trainer will set the bike to run for 60 seconds
- The timer will only start when you begin pushing
- Don't forget to use your legs
- Once you have finished the challenge, get the staff member to record how many calories you burned

Assault Bike:
Males and females: How fast can you row 300m?
Rules
- To enter the challenge, approach a UWA Sport staff member and ask them to assist you with the challenge.
- The trainer will set the distance for you and set the rower to level 10
- Row as fast as you can until you reach 300m, making sure to drive through your legs
- Once you have finished the challenge, get the staff member to record your time
- Only one attempt allowed per day

250m Ski Erg:
Males and females: How fast can you ski 250m
Rules
- To enter the challenge, approach a UWA Sport staff member and ask them to assist you with the challenge.
- The trainer will set the ski erg up for you
- The timer will only start when you begin
- Once you have finished the challenge, get the staff member to record your time
- August
Grip Strength:
Males and females: How strong is your grip strength
Rules
- To enter the challenge, approach a UWA Sport staff member and ask them to assist you with the challenge.
- Using your dominant hand, apply as much grip pressure as possible on the dynamometer
- Record the maximum reading and repeat the test 3 times
- The highest of the three values will be recorded. Only one attempt per day.
- Once you have finished the challenge, get the staff member to record your grip strength

40m S-Force Challenge:
Males and females: How fast can you reach 100m
Rules
- To enter the challenge, approach a UWA Sport staff member and ask them to assist you with the challenge.
- The trainer will set up the machine for you
- The timer will only start when you begin - fastest time to 100m wins
- Once you have finished the challenge, get the staff member to record your time
- October
Longest Plank:
Males and females: Hold a body weight plank position for as long as possible
Rules
- To enter the challenge, approach a UWA Sport staff member and ask them to assist you with the challenge.
- Hold a plank with acceptable form for as long as you can
- Once you have finished the challenge, get the staff member to record your time.
