In 2019, the Indigenous Nationals will be hosted by The University of Western Australia, and will be contested in a mixed competition across four sports: touch football, basketball, netball, and volleyball.
The Games will be held from Sunday 23- Friday 28 June 2019, providing a unique opportunity to bring together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students from around the country to participate and compete at a national level in mixed sports.
Since its inception in 1995, the aim of the gathering has been to promote unity, interaction and friendly competition between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tertiary students.
Indigenous Nationals offer an opportunity to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture in a positive light, and each year the Games receive increasing exposure in both mainstream and Indigenous media. The competition is an amazing environment to not only celebrate the rich sporting culture of indigenous Australia but to also acknowledge the heritage and history of the participating student-athletes.
So far the Western Waagyls have won seven championships (more than any other university) and have been placed runner-up four times. If you are an Indigenous student from UWA and would like to attend Nationals please contact Brendon DeGois or speak to a WASAC committee member to express your interest.
