Student Athlete Masterclass

Have you got what it takes to play your sport at the highest level? Find out more about the UWA Student Athlete Development Program this Open Day. The program targets Olympic, non-Olympic and professional athletes who seek to combine their sporting pursuits with positive academic pursuits. Tour the UWA Student Athlete hub, learn more about what the program, and find out how to get involved. The Masterclass will end with a panel session including current elite student athletes discussing their journey through sport and study.

Meet our Panel

Josh Kippin

Josh Kippin is Australia's number one marathon Kayaker, and is currently studying business at the University of Western Australia. Josh started kayaking in 2000 at Ascot Kayak Club, attending the youth Olympics in 2009 before transitioning to marathon kayaking following the games.

Tamsin Cook

Tamsin first broke onto the scene with the 2015 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships taking silver in the 200m butterfly, and set new championship records in both the 200m and 400m freestyle to win Gold for Australia, before being awarded Western Australia Institute of Sport’s Junior Athlete of the Year. Tamsin was the youngest swimmer on the 2016 Australian Olympic Team, and was key to Australia’s silver win in the 4 x 200 metre freestyle relay. Now taking a break from swimming to focus on her studies Tamsin will be on hand to discuss how the student athlete program has helped her as a student and individual as well as an athlete.

Ashton Brinkworth

Ashton Brinkworth is a first year student and national swimmer, studying biomedical science at the University of WA. The 18 year old chose to study part time across semester one to focus on his swimming, a move which has clearly paid off, recently named on the Australian Youth Olympic team to compete in Buenos Ares.
